VolunTeen Program – Summer 2018 Information

Make a difference in your community while having fun and exploring the healthcare environment at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Our summer program is designed to provide students interested in healthcare careers access to the operations of a world-class hospital. Volunteering is a fun activity with lots of hospital exposure, however, it is also a serious commitment. VolunTeens provide hundreds of hours of valuable service to our patients, families and team members, and your department will depend on you for your assigned shift. Northside Cherokee offers volunteer opportunities in a variety of settings including customer service, clinical and non-clinical areas, patient transport and wayfinding. We will offer 20 spots to the most qualified and enthusiastic teens. The selection process requires a 20 minute interview which will occur in March. If you are selected for an interview, you will receive a formal email with the date, time and location of this interview.

Application Requirements

Due to the limited number of teen positions available, not all applicants will be accepted into the program. The selection criteria includes receipt of completed application and required supplemental documents, ability to make required time commitment, previous volunteer and community services experiences, grade point average, student leadership positions, communication skills, ability to take initiative and a future career interest in healthcare.

Please consider carefully whether volunteering will fit your schedule or other life commitments. You must have the willingness and ability to support your volunteer assignment. The department in which you volunteer depends on you. By submitting your completed application, you agree to the program requirements.

Application Process

Step 1: Complete the online VolunTeen Application

Step 2: Download the School Counselor and Records Release Form. This form must be completed by your school counselor and can be mailed, faxed or delivered in person upon completion.

Step 3: Provide Immunization Records (MMR, DPT & Varicella/Chicken Pox).

Step 4: Submit all required documents (completed VolunTeen Application, completed School Counselor and Records Release Form, and Immunization Records) by March 9, 2018.


All documents must be received by the March 9, 2018 deadline for consideration.

Step 5: Once all required documents are received, you will receive an email about scheduling an interview. Interviews will take place during the month of March.

Step 6: Once accepted to the 2018 Northside Hospital Cherokee VolunTeen Program, you will be scheduled for VolunTeen Orientation on either April 14h or April 16th.

Step 7: Northside Hospital requires all employee and volunteers to be tested for tuberculosis. This is a multistep process and can take 2-3 weeks for completion. Information on this process will be included in the VolunTeen acceptance packet.
